The Hume Winter Lights Festival is set to return for another year as part of several projects backed by the Andrews Labor Government, creating social connection and inclusive employment opportunities in Broadmeadows.
Minister for Suburban Development Melissa Horne joined the Member for Broadmeadows Frank McGuire MP to announce $350,000 in funding for locally led projects through the Labor Government’s Broadmeadows Suburban Revitalisation Board.
After the great success of this year’s Hume Winter Lights Festival, Hume City Council will receive $150,000 to run the free festival again in 2023, offering people of all ages the opportunity to enjoy art installations, live music, multicultural performances and fireworks.
The Labor Government will also invest $70,000 on top of the $125,000 announced earlier this year towards the Common Bean Café in Banksia Gardens, a project equipping young people with valuable barista and café skills.
A further $130,000 will support the development of an Economic Inclusion Action Plan in Broadmeadows, including a Jobs & Skills Summit to be held during Refugee Week, to help local refugees and migrants find employment opportunities.
To date, the Labor Government has invested more than $19 million in 30 Broadmeadows suburban revitalisation projects valued at almost $59 million. This includes the redevelopment of Broadmeadows Town Hall, upgrades to the Broadmeadows Railway station, streetscape works, the Brite Nursery Precinct redevelopment and several projects within the Banksia Gardens Estate.
There are eight Suburban Revitalisation Boards across Melbourne, focused on driving economic and social renewal in Broadmeadows, Boronia, Frankston, Lilydale, Melton, Noble Park, Reservoir and Tarneit.
Since 2016, the Suburban Revitalisation program has invested more than $45 million into 218 projects.
