Ray Borner 3 On 3 Challenge A Slam Dunk For Ballarat

28 November 2016

The Andrews Labor Government has secured the 2017 Ray Borner 3 on 3 Challenge for Ballarat.

Minister for Sport John Eren visited the Minerdome today to announce the tournament will feature on Ballarat’s calendar of events next year.

The finals will be broadcast on Foxtel, giving Ballarat a chance to showcase the best of everything on offer to viewers around Australia.

Some 600 male and female basketball stars from right around the country will converge on Ballarat in April, all vying for national honours and a share of the $50,000 prize purse. The exciting new brand of basketball will showcase the best Australian talent, all under the one roof.

The Labor Government has secured the event with a Significant Sporting Events Program grant. The Program helps stage more than 70 events in Melbourne and regional Victoria each year.

National sporting events attract players, support staff, spectators and families to our suburbs and towns, creating opportunities for businesses and jobs for locals – and that changes people’s lives for the better.

Victoria is the sports and events capital, and we want it to stay that way. We’ve given our major events war chest an $80 million boost and we’ve established a $20 million Regional Events Fund.
