A new award to recognise the work of a leading child protection practitioner was announced today by Minister for Families and Children, Jenny Mikakos.

The Robin Clark Leadership award has been created in memory of the visionary child protection worker Robin Dennis Clark, who greatly influenced child and family related policy and practice in Victoria.

Ms Mikakos encouraged people to nominate current-day child protection leaders for this prestigious new award, as well as for the other categories in the Robin Clark Protecting Children Awards.

The awards are open to individuals and teams working in child and family services in both the government and community sectors. Categories include: the Carer Award, for foster or kinship carers; and the Education Initiative Award, which recognises those who have succeeded in improving the education of children and young people in child protection.

Nominees could be the individuals who provide much-needed services such as: offering their homes as foster and kinship carers; providing innovation and education initiatives; or contributing to policy, practice and leadership in child protection.

Nominations close on Monday, 29 June.

Winners will be announced at the Robin Clark Protecting Children Awards ceremony held on 8 September to launch Child Protection Week in Victoria.
