Attorney-General Martin Pakula today announced the appointment of Moana Weir as the new Chair of the Board of the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission.
Ms Weir, who commences on 23 August, has a proven track record of improving gender diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
Ms Weir has first-hand experience working with the Commission after she was appointed as a board member in March last year, and has more than 15 years of board experience as a company secretary and senior officer of Australian Securities Exchange listed entities.
From 2010 to 2015, Ms Weir worked as the General Counsel and Company Secretary of SEEK, one of the largest online employment classifieds.
During this time, she was responsible for leading a range of diversity and inclusion programs including the development of a female career advancement program in the Finance team.
In 1993, Ms Weir was also admitted as a barrister and solicitor to the Supreme Court of Victoria.
Ms Weir is now the Head of Legal for Regulatory, Consumer and New Zealand for healthcare company BUPA.
Mr Pakula thanked the outgoing Chairperson John Searle for his service to the Commission over the past five years.
