Major Works To Kick Off In Carrum

12 February 2019

Major works to remove three dangerous and congested level crossings, build a brand-new station, and create a better connection throughout Carrum will start this week.

Minister for Transport Infrastructure Jacinta Allan today announced the Andrews Labor Government’s works are ramping up which will see trains running on a rail bridge through the suburb by early 2020.

Currently crews are relocating underground services such as gas, water, and power as well as upgrading signalling along the Frankston line.

During February there will be partial closures of the Carrum Station car park and from 9 March the car park will be closed until construction finishes.

A temporary rail track will soon be built from Karrum Karrum Bridge to Eel Race Road. This means trains will keep running during construction to minimise disruptions for commuters.

When the temporary track is running Carrum Station will be closed and the existing rail line will be removed. Piling work will allow for the installation of piers to support the rail bridge.

During the station closure, trains will run express through Carrum and shuttle buses will transport passengers from Carrum Station to Seaford and Bonbeach stations.

The rail bridge and new station will be open in early 2020 with work continuing toward the $50 million revitalisation of Carrum. This will see more than 1.2 hectares — equivalent to the size of two soccer fields — of new community space.

The new space includes a new park at Carrum foreshore, a village green at the Carrum shops, a town square next to the new station, and a station garden at a new second entrance to the station.

Works to complete the pedestrian and cycle ramps on the Karrum Karrum bridge will be completed in April.

The Level Crossing Removal Project will host an exhibition at the Carrum Info Hub in late February as well as offering walking tours of the suburb.
