Labor is backing Victorian innovation – growing jobs and the economy.

Minister Pearson visited Atmo Biosciences to see their new, world-first medical device – made right here in Victoria.

The Atmo Biosciences Capsule is an ingestible, gas-sensing tool that measures and captures important data throughout the gastrointestinal tract.

It offers clinicians a simple, radiation-free way to measure how food moves through the stomach, small intestine and colon, helping to diagnose digestive disorders.

Worldwide, more than 40 per cent of people are likely to experience a gut issue that affects how their digestive system works.

These common and debilitating conditions cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and abdominal pain, and are often difficult to diagnose or treat, leaving many undiagnosed or with ongoing symptoms.

This world-first technology is providing hope to millions of people with common gut disorders.

Following US FDA approval last year, the device is experiencing growing uptake in the United States.

And now, the device has just been approved for distribution in Singapore.

As it grows, the company plans to expand its manufacturing capacity to meet demand, creating new, highly skilled jobs at their production facility in Box Hill.

The company emerged from research at RMIT University, where the innovative capsule was first developed.

Investment from the Labor Government helped the company to commercialise its product and launch it on the global market.

Worth $21.4 billion, Victoria’s health technologies sector is growing rapidly. It generates $3.8 billion worth of exports and employs over 51,700 people across the state.

Recognised as a priority sector in Labor’s Economic Growth Statement, health technology is a key driver of Victoria’s competitive edge on the global stage.
