Worksafe’s New Headquarters Officially Open

05 July 2018

The three WorkSafe signs on top of 1 Malop St were turned on today, officially opening the new WorkSafe headquarters in Geelong.

The opening was attended by more than 250 people and marks the completion of the WorkSafe relocation project, which included the construction of Geelong’s tallest commercial building and transferred more than 700 jobs to the region.

WorkSafe’s relocation is part of the Andrews Labor Government’s ongoing work to establish the city as a national centre for social insurance excellence. Large-scale social insurance organisations National Disability Insurance Agency and Transport Accident Commission are also based in the city.

More than 500 former Melbourne-based staff began working in the new office this week, nearly 90 of which have purchased homes in the region, with more renting.

More than 200 staff working at other Geelong locations moved into the building in late May, and an advertising campaign is underway to recruit locals to join WorkSafe as new positions become available.

The construction of the 14-storey building that now houses WorkSafe’s Geelong headquarters created more than 250 jobs during peak construction.

The $120 million building, which was designed, built and is owned by property group Quintessential Equity, has been recognised by the International WELL Building Institute for incorporating design features and materials which promote health and wellbeing.
