Work Underway To Rebuild And Repair Blue Ribbon Road

09 October 2019

Work to rebuild and repair a section of Blue Ribbon Road near Dooen has begun as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s massive regional road maintenance blitz.

A 700-metre section of road is undergoing a full rebuild to improve the strength, durability and longevity of the road, which caters to more than 600 drivers each day.

A further 11 kilometres of the road’s surface will also be resealed, improving the durability and longevity of the road surface.

Minister for Roads, Road Safety and TAC Jaala Pulford today visited the site, which is one of 12 being strengthened and resurfaced across six of the Wimmera region’s busiest roads as part of the Labor Government’s massive road maintenance blitz.

We know how important country roads are to country communities – that’s why the Government is continuing our record regional maintenance blitz that last year saw over 297,000 tonnes of asphalt laid and 145,000 potholes fixed.

This year another 1,500 kilometres of roads will be repaired, rebuilt and resurfaced with around 1,100 construction jobs to be created as part of this work.

Regional councils are also delivering 133 improvement projects on their municipal roads thanks to round two of the Government’s $100 million Fixing Country Roads program – including rebuilding sections of local roads, sealing gravel roads and strengthening bridges.

Crews will be out in force with reduced speeds and traffic management in place – we ask drivers to adhere to these changed conditions for the safety of roadworkers and the community.

The works on Blue Ribbon Road, which began earlier this month, will take approximately five weeks to complete.
