Work Starts On Derinya Primary Kitchen Garden

31 May 2018

Frankston South students will soon learn how to grow and prepare their own food at a new school kitchen garden, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Education James Merlino today visited Derinya Primary School in Frankston South to turn the first sod and get construction underway on the school’s new $112,000 kitchen garden.

The kitchen garden will mean students at the school will be able to grow, harvest and cook their own food as part of lessons.

The project and associated landscaping will be completed later this year, with architects Saltwater Design & Building Management and builders Wielan Constructions delivering it.

Derinya Primary School is one of hundreds of schools across the state now being upgraded, as the Labor Government delivers the Education State.

The Education State will mean every student can attend a great local school and get a great education, with the government investing more than $3.8 billion to improve classrooms, upgrade facilities and build new schools.

This school building boom has delivered more than 1,300 school upgrades and 70 new school projects across the state, supporting more than 5,000 construction jobs for Victorians.
