A ground-breaking new residential development in Lyndhurst will encourage efficient water and energy use at home for more sustainable living as the Andrews Labor Government continues to put local communities first.
Minister for Water Lisa Neville today toured the Aquarevo Discovery Centre to see first-hand the water-saving features to be installed in each home in the 460-lot estate in Lyndhurst.
In an Australian-first, the use of rainwater and recycled water will help slash demand for drinking water by up to 70 per cent and reduce stormwater run-off by 25 per cent.
Central to the Aquarevo home is the rain to hot water system, which captures rainwater from the roof and stores it in a tank at each property.
The rainwater undergoes screening, filtration, UV and heat treatment, before supplying hot water taps in the shower, bath, laundry trough and clothes washing machine.
To preserve drinking supplies, Class A recycled water – the highest quality recycled water available – will be produced by an onsite water recycling plant. All treated wastewater will be returned to homes for use in toilets, gardens and washing machines.
Homes will use South East Water’s OneBox® technology to manage water use and monitor energy consumption – while solar panels will also be installed.
Aquarevo is a collaboration between South East Water and Villawood Properties.
Water for Victoria – the state water plan – looks at how to make better use of alternative water supplies.
The Andrews Labor Government was elected to put people first, and we’ve spent the last two years striving to build more liveable Victorian communities.
We’re delivering on the things that matter most to people – creating jobs and investing in projects that secure our precious water supplies for the future.
