The Andrews Labor Government is helping Wimmera locals get to medical appointments with a new local transport service run by volunteer drivers.
Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan today announced the start of the Wimmera Southern Mallee Community Transport Service Kaniva to Horsham route.
Locals in Kaniva, Nhill, Dimboola and Pimpino who require transport assistance or do not have a driver’s licence, will be picked up from home in the morning and dropped off at designated locations including Horsham town centre and the Wimmera Base Hospital.
Passengers can attend appointments or conduct business in town before departing for home in the afternoon from the same locations.
The Labor Government has partnered with the Centre for Participation to fund the local transport pilot. Increased local transport options for regional communities was identified as a priority in the Labor Government’s Regional Network Development Plan, released in May 2016.
Services will begin between Kaniva and Horsham, with the Centre for Participation then working with the community to identify future routes between Edenhope to Horsham and nearby towns.
