Victorians Have Their Say On Local Councils

29 July 2019

Nearly 27,000 Victorian residents and ratepayers have had their say on their local councils as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s Community Satisfaction Survey.

Satisfaction in the overall performance of councils has remained steady with customer service the ranking core measure.

The survey reveals that the most valued council services were waste management, emergency and disaster management and elderly support services.

It also shows that the highest satisfaction was with arts centres and libraries, the appearance of public areas and emergency and disaster management.

The Community Satisfaction Survey gives ratepayers the opportunity to have their say on how their councils are tracking and helps councils identify, prioritise and improve their service delivery.

The survey has been in place since 1998 and covers seven core measures of council performance including community consultation, advocacy, making community decisions, sealed local roads, customer service and overall council direction.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Local Government Adem Somyurek

“This survey gives us insight into what Victorians expect from their local council, and I expect all local councils will take on board this valuable feedback to deliver the best outcomes for their communities.”

“On the whole, councils are doing a good job, but there is still room to improve. That’s why we’re working with councils to help them be more accountable, democratic and responsive.”
