Upgrading The Lakes Entrance Eastern Training Wall

18 October 2019

The Andrews Labor Government is upgrading the Lakes Entrance Eastern Training Wall to make it safer for locals and visitors, delivering vital repairs for important local port facilities across the state.

Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne today announced $780,000 for works to reinstate the breakwater to secure access through Lakes Entrance.

The entrance channel between the training walls provide vital access for the offshore fishing fleet and recreational boats to the port of Gippsland Lakes.

The training walls are also accessed by locals and visitors, including fishers, anglers and tourists.

The Labor Government is also investing $29,340 for new public lighting at the Marlo Jetty, on top of Gippsland Ports $100,660 upgrade of the Marlo Jetty to ensure it is safe for public use into the future.

Gippsland Ports is the port manager for five local ports in Gippsland as well as the waterway manager for two further waterways and manages port infrastructure, vessels, plant and equipment worth close to $190 million.

The Training Wall upgrades build on the Labor Government’s investment in a new dredge, the Tommy Norton, that has been operating around Lakes Entrance since 2017.

The Tommy Norton is delivering safe and reliable ocean access for the thousands of recreational and commercial vessels that cross the Lakes Entrance bar every year.
