Students on the Mornington Peninsula will soon have access to bigger, better and safer school facilities, thanks to an almost $4.9 million investment by the Andrews Labor Government.
Minister for Education James Merlino today joined Member for Nepean, Chris Brayne, at Red Hill Consolidated School to tour the site of a new $3.2 million project to give the school the modern facilities they need, as well as inspecting a new $1.7 million architect-designed modular building that has replaced an asbestos filled building.
The $3.2 million upgrade of the school will see the modernisation and refurbishment of school facilities and improved amenities for students. The Victorian School Building Authority is currently working with the school community on the scope of these works.
The Labor Government is also getting on with the job of removing asbestos from schools, through a $379.5 million investment in asbestos removal – including here at Red Hill.
The asbestos-contained building was replaced with a state-of-the-art modular building, complete with four new general-purpose classrooms, outdoor learning spaces and a staff room.
This is part of our work to remove asbestos that may pose a future risk from school buildings. By the end of 2020, 100 new permanent modular school buildings will have been delivered by the Government. These buildings are constructed off-site and assembled at schools to minimise disruption.
The works at Red Hill Consolidated School are part of the Labor Government’s $5.6 billion school building boom, which also includes the largest ever removal of asbestos-containing materials from our schools.
It’s all part of the Labor Government’s record investment in school infrastructure that is delivering more than 1,400 school upgrades and supporting 7,500 construction jobs for Victorians.
