Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water, Lisa Neville has announced the appointment of two new directors to the Zoological Parks and Gardens Board.
Dr Kirsty Sword Gusmão AO and Mr Brian Cook this week joined the Zoological Parks and Gardens Board, bringing with them a wealth of skills and expertise developed in prominent corporate, international and academic roles.
Dr Gusmão is the Expert Adviser to the Timor-Leste National Commission for UNESCO and a former chair of UNESCO National Commission.
She has a long service history in fostering international relations, and improving education, health and living conditions. Her expertise in international engagement and education will be valuable assets for marketing and promoting Victoria’s zoos to the world.
Mr Brian Cook is Chief Executive of the Geelong Football Club; Chair of the Geelong Cats Sports Foundation; Chair of the Project Control Group for the redevelopment of Simonds Stadium, Director of the Barwon Health Future Fund; and previously was a Director at Tourism Victoria.
Mr Cook brings a culture of success and a raft of corporate experience to the table, no doubt helping to strengthen Victoria’s zoos into the future.
The Zoological Parks and Gardens Board is the governing body of Victoria’s three great zoos: Melbourne Zoo, Healesville Sanctuary and Werribee Open Range Zoo.
Minister Neville paid tribute to outgoing board members, thanking them for their service and expertise.
