Transport Jobs On The Move To Bendigo Gov Hub

28 June 2019

The Andrews Labor Government is boosting the number of people working in Central Bendigo with Bendigo-based Department of Transport staff, including VicRoads, moving into the new Bendigo Gov Hub.

The move would bring the 115 people strong Transport workforce in as the latest tenants of the new GovHub, which will bring together up to 1000 public servants from the City of Greater Bendigo and other government agencies, revitalising the northern end of the CBD.

The announcement comes ahead of the formalisation of the new Department of Transport on 1 July and will bring together staff from VicRoads, Regional Roads Victoria and Public Transport Victoria who are currently located at East Bendigo.

Alongside Department of Transport staff, the GovHub will be home to agencies including the City of Greater Bendigo, Regional Development Victoria, Agriculture Victoria, Parks Victoria.

Alongside delivering the Gov Hub, the Andrews Labor Government committed to bringing 100 new jobs to Bendigo. With the inclusion of two new government agencies - Portable Long Service Authority and the Victorian Labour Hire Licensing Authority – in the Gov Hub 55 new jobs have already been created.

The first focus group consultation on the project was held last night to allow tenant agencies, advisory groups, neighbouring businesses and the local Indigenous community to have their say on design concepts and themes.

An important focus of the GovHub will be the use of public spaces, connectivity with the surrounding precinct and city centre and how the history and heritage of the Lyttleton Terrace site will be reflected.

An open community consultation session will be held on Saturday 27 July at Bendigo Town Hall, to give the community an opportunity to speak with the architects and design team. After community consultations, architects will commence detailed design a construction tender will be awarded in mid-2020, ahead of the GovHub’s opening in mid-2022.

Community members can find out more about the consultation session at rdv.vic.gov.au/bendigogovhub.
