Three More Level Crossings Gone For Good

Another three dangerous and congested level crossings have been removed in Melbourne’s south east and west.

With level crossings removed at Mordialloc, Aspendale and Truganina – 91 level crossings are now gone for good.

The new elevated Mordialloc Station opened this morning following a three-week construction blitz.

It features entrances at both ends of the station, lifts, a waiting room and a new walking and cycling path through the precinct.

Trains now travel on new rail bridges over McDonald Street in Mordialloc and Station Street in Aspendale.

A new road connection and signalised intersection linking Station Street to Nepean Highway has also opened, helping ease congestion through the area.

About 26,000 vehicles travelled through these crossings each day – these drivers will now avoid waiting up to 40 minutes of boom gate down-time during the morning peak.

Frankston Line passengers will also benefit from 12 extra weekly services from today, including trains every five minutes or better during peak periods.

In Melbourne’s west, the new Hopkins Road bridge has opened in Truganina, making the suburb level crossing free.

The new road bridge includes dedicated walking and cycling paths, improving safety and keeping locals connected.

A further three dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns Road, Exford Road and Ferris Road in Melton, are going for good later this year, alongside the opening of a new modern and accessible Melton Station.

We’re also close to making Newport level crossing free in 2026, with works underway to build a final rail bridge over Maddox Road.
