A Thousand New Homes For Victorians Who Need Them Most

The Allan Labor Government is delivering more than 1,000 new social homes across the state thanks to a partnership with community housing providers – providing more Victorians with safe and secure housing.

Minister for Housing and Building Harriet Shing today visited St Albans where 90 new social homes are underway as part of a $369 million investment to help build and operate more than 1,000 new homes through the Labor Government’s Social Housing Growth Fund.

The St Albans development, managed by Evolve Housing, will provide one and two-bedroom homes just minutes from Keilor Plains Station and close to local primary and secondary schools, ensuring residents are connected to transport, education and community services.

These homes form part of the 1,043 new social homes that will be built right across Victoria, including 256 homes in Greater Dandenong, 169 homes in Greater Geelong, 90 homes in Bayside, 68 homes in Port Phillip, 67 homes in Hobsons Bay, and 65 homes in Ballarat.

The Social Housing Growth Fund provides funding for not-for-profit community housing organisations to help build and operate social housing for 30 years. By partnering with these organisations, the Labor Government is supporting more Victorians into safe, secure, and modern long-term housing.

All 1,043 of these homes will go to Victorians on the social housing register – including people escaping family violence, people sleeping rough, and First Nations Victorians.

Every new home will be modern, energy-efficient and built to last – meaning renters will stay warm in winter, cool in summer, and save on power bills.

This investment will also support more than 5,400 jobs across the state – supporting suppliers and construction workers as they help build homes for those who need them most.

This program forms part of the Labor Government’s record investment in housing – including the $6.3 billion Big Housing Build and Regional Housing Fund, which are delivering more than 13,300 social and affordable homes across the state, with more than 10,800 already complete or underway.

It also complements the recent announcement by the Albanese and Allan Labor Governments to deliver 1,275 new homes in Victoria through the second round of the Housing Australia Future Fund.
