Ten Year Vision For Social And Affordable Housing

09 February 2021

The Andrews Labor Government is inviting Victorians to have their say on social and affordable housing as part of a 10-year strategy that will ensure more Victorians have safe, suitable and secure housing.

Minister for Housing Richard Wynne today released a discussion paper to seek stakeholder and community feedback, and inform the development of the strategy, which will be released later this year.

The strategy will outline a blueprint for the future of our social housing system – encompassing the diverse views of stakeholders and the community.

The coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the importance of safe, affordable and stable housing. This strategy will provide the roadmap and reforms needed to ensure all Victorians who need housing support have a safety net as well as access to safe, secure and affordable housing.

There will be a focus on bringing together stakeholders from across the community housing, private and community services sectors, as well as all levels of government. Combining their skills, expertise and capacity will help build a more effective social and affordable housing system that can meet the current and future needs of Victorians.

The discussion paper and strategy are framed around four focus areas of pathways, communities, partnerships and growth, with people at the centre. These focus areas will guide engagement with industry, government, the housing and homelessness sectors, existing residents and Victorians across the state.

The strategy is part of Victoria’s landmark $5.3 billion Big Housing Build, which will deliver more than 12,000 new homes and is the largest investment in social and affordable housing in Australia’s history.

Community and stakeholder consultation is open until 9 April 2021. To download the discussion paper and have your say, visit engage.vic.gov.auExternal Link .
