The World Cup of Golf will return to Melbourne in 2018 – the golfing and sporting capital of Australia.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren announced today that the four-day tournament will be held in Victoria for the second time next year at the Metropolitan Golf Club on our famous Sandbelt.
The prestigious event will pit the world’s best golfers against each other in two-person national teams. It’s the only event that sees players compete for their countries outside of the Olympic Games.
The World Cup of Golf brought global star power when it debuted in Melbourne in 2016, with 17 of the top 50 players in the world on hand – including Adam Scott, Hideki Matsuyama and Rickie Fowler.
The Andrews Labor Government is working closely with Visit Victoria to maintain our status as Australia’s home of golf – having already locked in the Presidents Cup in 2019 and the Australia Open Golf in 2020 and 2022.
Golf is not only a favourite past-time for Victorians, it also boosts tourism and jobs, generating $849 million to the state’s economy and supporting 6,900 jobs.
Adding the World Cup of Golf to our major events calendar will attract even more domestic and international visitors to Victoria and encourage more locals to get out on the green.
The World Cup of Golf will be held in Melbourne from 21-25 November 2018.
