Victoria’s adult community education sector will be able to provide more people with the foundation skills they need to get a job or undertake further training with a new program announced by the Andrews Labor Government.
More than 3,000 learners and 267 Learn Local adult community education providers will benefit from a new $5 million program to boost literacy, numeracy and language training for Victorian’s looking to gain the basic skills they need to succeed.
The new program will focus on students with high needs through an expansion of pre-accredited courses, supporting them to have the best chance to get a job or undertake further training.
The program also aims to build staff capacity through customised support, so each Learn Local can broaden their offerings and provide greater support for more students.
Learn Local providers make a huge difference in their communities by delivering adult community education programs. They help people turn their lives around with programs for people of all ages and from all walks of life.
Whether it’s on the shop floor or in the office, gaining foundation skills in a practical setting means that students will have the best chance to go onto further training or a job.
The Victorian Budget 2018/19 is investing an additional $644 million to strengthen the training and TAFE system, address skills shortages and ensure all Victorians can access the training they need to get a good job.
