The Andrews Labor Government is giving nurses from Central Victoria new opportunities to boost their skills and find the job they want closer to home.

Minister for Health Jill Hennessy today officially opened the Maryborough District Health Service’s Centre of Inspired Learning, where nurses can secure new skills closer to home.

Ms Hennessy also announced $4.1 million from the Labor Government’s Regional Health Infrastructure Fund to build high quality accommodation and better facilities to attract more students to study or work locally, including a refurbished kitchen.

The Labor Government’s $200 million Regional Health Infrastructure Fund is the largest of its kind in Victorian history. The fund is rebuilding rural and regional health services to ensure all Victorians can access the high-quality care and facilities they need, no matter where they live.

The flagship centre will allow more health professionals to study, work and live in regional Victoria, boosting patient care.

A suite of programs will offer new nurses training on-site – without the need to travel to Melbourne – while existing health service staff will be able to access simulated learning and practice equipment.

The centre will also offer first-aid courses to the community, so that more Maryborough locals are equipped to act fast when an emergency strikes.

It’s all part of Maryborough’s vision to become one of Victoria’s leading regional teaching hospitals. The centre will become a one-stop shop for learning and training – right in the heart of the Maryborough District Health Service.

The centre was co-funded in partnership with the community and local businesses.
