Victoria’s cruise ship industry will experience a first this weekend with two Silversea ships docking in Melbourne simultaneously for the first time in its history – following the reopening by the Allan Labor Government in October this year.
The landmark occasion will see the arrival of the luxury cruise lines ‘Silver Nova’ and ‘Silver Moon’ ships at Station Pier, which reopened to the public in October for the first time since 2020.
To mark the occasion a community event will be held between 9:00am and 6:00pm on Saturday and 12:00pm and 2:00pm on Sunday – featuring music and live large-scale street art from acclaimed local contemporary artist Tom Gerrard who will create a mural at the venue for cruise ship passengers to contribute to when they disembark.
The event will celebrate the continued operation of Station Pier as a shipping and cruise ship facility for years to come.
The upgraded Station Pier saw the refurbishment of the Gatehouse, structural pylons, electrical systems, corrosion protection and wharf deck – ensuring it remains an accessible destination for operators and visitors for decades to come.
