Passengers going to and from the growing Huntly community will have access to better train services sooner than expected, with construction of Huntly station brought forward to finish a year early.
Minister for Transport Infrastructure Jacinta Allan today announced works at Huntly Station are due to be completed by mid-2022, one year ahead of the original 2023 target.
The Andrews Labor Government is investing $49.6 million in the Bendigo Metro 3 Project, with new stations at Huntly, Goornong and Raywood giving people in the communities access to public transport close to where they live.
Goornong Station will be the first to be built and will be completed by the end of 2021, while Raywood Station is on track to be finished by late 2022.
Geotechnical drilling and surveying have already been done at each of the sites to inform design and engineering plans.
Construction on Goornong Station is scheduled to begin in mid-2021, followed by Huntly in late 2021 and Raywood in mid-2022.
The new stations will each feature single-sided platforms with lighting, tactile paving, seating, pedestrian shelters and car parking with lighting and CCTV.
Residents are being asked to have their say on concept drawings for the new stations, with community feedback to be incorporated into the final designs.
The new stations will be delivered alongside the Bendigo and Echuca Line Upgrade, minimising disruptions to the local community.
