Minister for Women and the Prevention of Family Violence Fiona Richardson will be taking an extended period of leave due to serious illness.

Fiona has also advised me that she will not be seeking re-election as the Member for Northcote in 2018.

Fiona has made this decision so she can fully focus on her health.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Fiona and her family, and we will do everything we can to support her during this difficult time.

Since being elected to Parliament in 2006, Fiona has been an incredibly strong voice for the people of Northcote.

From securing upgrades to local schools, including Croxton School and Northcote High, to ensuring the removal of the notorious level crossing on Grange Road in Alphington, and upgrading Chandler Highway – Fiona has steadfastly served her community.

She has served Victoria as Parliamentary Secretary for Education and Treasury and Finance, before becoming Minister for Women and Australia’s first ever Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence.

In this role, Fiona is an unwavering advocate on behalf of victim-survivors and every Victorian touched by the tragedy of family violence.

Fiona’s work to prevent family violence continues to save lives, particularly those of women and children.

Jill Hennessy will remain Acting Minister for Women and Prevention of Family Violence.
