Statement from the Premier

09 May 2015

Victoria Police have charged a 17-year-old from Greenvale with terrorism offences as part of yesterday’s Melbourne Joint Counter Terrorism Team Operation Amberd.

On behalf of all Victorians, I want to thank all security agencies involved in this operation, including Victoria Police and the Australian Federal Police for their professionalism and dedication.

The Victorian Government’s highest priority is the safety of the community.

This was a very serious operation.

Yesterday's operation, following an intense and methodical investigation, has kept Victorians safe.

We will continue to work with local communities and Victorian and Commonwealth law enforcement agencies to take all steps necessary to keep people safe.

Operation Amberd is a result of someone calling the National Security Hotline.

If anyone sees anything of concern, I urge you to call the National Security Hotline on 1800 123 400.
