The Andrews Labor Government will invest $500,000 in social cohesion initiatives to bring families and communities together.
Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Robin Scott, said the funds will support initiatives in Hume, Moreland, and six other local government areas. Examples of initiatives supported under the program include:
- A forum for young people in Hume to discuss Australian democracy
- Bystander intervention training in Moreland to help locals respond to racial or religious vilification
- A cooking program in Shepparton, where people can learn about each other’s backgrounds over a meal
It’s about building new connections between Victorians of different backgrounds, increasing respect and resilience.
The initiatives will be delivered by the Hume, Greater Dandenong, Brimbank, Casey, Whittlesea, Moreland, Greater Bendigo and Greater Shepparton councils, working with business and community organisations.
