A new youth reference group bringing together 18 diverse Victorian youth advocates met for the first time today to help guide the Andrews Labor Government’s new youth policy framework.
Minister for Youth Affairs Jenny Mikakos opened the meeting and set the challenge ahead for the group.
The youth reference group brings together young Victorians aged 14 to 24 from different areas, backgrounds and experiences.
Its role will be to guide the development of a framework which will ensure government policy accurately represents young people’s views.
Once completed, the Labor Government’s new youth policy framework will improve outcomes for all young Victorian, particularly those who are disadvantaged and disengaged.
The new whole-of-government policy will:
- Guide the development of policies and programs across government, and shape the way government engages with young people
- Identify new government actions to improve outcomes for young people
- Increase the focus on preventing problems and addressing problems early
- Support seamless pathways and transitions between school, training and work that supports young people to succeed at school, get a job and be connected to the community
