The Andrews Labor Government has taken a major step towards reducing travel times and improving safety on Yan Yean Road in Plenty and Diamond Creek.
Member for Yan Yean, Danielle Green today announced BMD Constructions Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract to design and build the 3.9km upgrade.
Yan Yean Road will be widened from two to four lanes, between Diamond Creek Road to Kurrak Road and upgrades to the River Avenue, Kurrak Road and Diamond Creek Road intersections will also be delivered.
The upgrade will include a continuous centre median to prevent head-on crashes, straightening the road to improve driver visibility and new service roads to allow residents to safely access their properties.
There will also be new off-road cycling and pedestrian paths along the length of the upgrade.
Stage Two of the Yan Yean Road upgrade through Yarrambat and Doreen received funding of $94 million in this year's State Budget. This upgrade will be tendered at a later date once VicRoads has completed planning and negotiations with impacted property owners.
Yan Yean Road currently carries more than 23,000 vehicles per day.
More than 45 recorded crashes have occurred on this section of Yan Yean Road since 2010, resulting in one fatality and eight serious injuries.
Construction will start later this year.
