World Class Excellence In Victoria’s Public Health Care

Victoria’s world class public health services have been honoured for innovative achievements that are making a real difference to Victorians – and saving lives.

Minister for Health Jill Hennessy and Minister for Mental Health Martin Foley last night presented 18 awards at the 2017 Victorian Public Healthcare Awards gala ceremony.

Now in their 13th year, the prestigious awards continue to celebrate examples of excellence, dedication and innovation in public health care that are improving health outcomes for the Victorian community.

From pursuing the next great medical breakthrough, to ensuring every Victorian gets the care they need, the Victorian Public Healthcare Awards celebrate a diversity of achievement, talent and outstanding leadership.

Recipients of the Premier’s Health Service of the Year are:

  • Premier’s Primary Health Service of the Year – Winner: cohealth. Finalists: Star Health Group, Sunbury Community Health
  • Premier’s Small Health Service of the Year – Winner: Kyneton District Health. Finalists: Rochester and Elmore District Health Service, Rural Northwest Health
  • Premier’s Medium Health Service of the Year – Winner: Benalla Health. Finalists: East Grampians Health Service, Echuca Regional Health
  • Premier’s Large Health Service of the Year – Winner: The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. Finalist: The Royal Children's Hospital

The awards were judged by 78 experts from across the health sector. Other key categories recognised improving workforce wellbeing and safety, excellence in mental healthcare and improving the integration of care for patients with chronic and complex conditions.

Excellence in CALD health, public sector aged care, women’s health, children’s health, clinical research, Indigenous health, supporting healthy populations, LGBTI health and responding to family violence were also recognised. Two Safer Care Victoria awards honoured excellence in quality and safety and compassionate care.
