Woomelang Shopping Precinct Upgrade Open For Business

09 August 2017

The Andrews Labor Government-backed upgrade to the Woomelang Shopping Precinct is complete – creating new opportunities for local businesses and more reasons to visit the region.

Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford officially announced the completion of the project in Parliament today.

Yarriambiack Shire Council identified the Woomelang Shopping Precinct Upgrade as a priority project to help improve the liveability and boost local economic activity.

The Labor Government’s $100,000 investment is significant for the town of 200 people. It created one equivalent-full-time job during construction phase, and helped to retain two full time jobs within the region.

The upgrade includes the development of a vacant block next to the community owned café and grocery store into a piazza style meeting place, as well as the creation of a large sheltered space, new car park and landscaping.

The project was funded through the Labor Government’s $27 million Drought Response Package, part of the Rural Development stream of the Regional Infrastructure Fund.

The total value of the precinct upgrade is $128,000, with additional funding from the Woomelang and District Development Association of $15,000, and $13,000 donated in-kind.
