Winning Economy: Victoria, The State Leading The Nation

16 November 2016

Victoria is leading the nation as the only state with above trend growth and accelerating economic momentum, according to the latest ANZ Stateometer report.

The Andrews Labor Government’s push to put people first – through record investment in transport, hospitals and school upgrades – has led to Victoria being the only state to record an increase in full-time jobs.

More than 162,000 jobs have been created since we were elected and more than 89,000 of those are full-time positions.

The ANZ report echoes the October Commsec State of the States report, which showed Victoria was leading the nation in annual economic growth.

Commsec reported a 5.4 per cent rise in economic growth, thanks to our rising population, robust retail spending and construction work.

Construction activity, highlighted in the latest ABS building figures, shows Victoria’s ongoing approvals for new residential projects continues to out-perform the other states and will deliver more homes and more jobs.

Quotes attributable to Treasurer Tim Pallas

“Unprecedented investment by the Andrews Labor Government across roads and transport, health facilities and in our schools is paying dividends – driving the state’s economy.”

“We’re showing the nation how putting people first creates jobs and investment, and our triple-A credit rating and jobs figures are the envy of every other state.”
