William Angliss Cooking Up A Storm In China

01 July 2016

Victoria’s renowned tourism and hospitality training provider William Angliss will set up a new training facility in China in a landmark joint venture with a key player in the Chinese vocational education sector.

Minister for International Education Steve Herbert oversaw the signing in Shanghai of a memorandum of understanding between William Angliss and the Tourism College of Zhejiang agreeing to establish the Sino-Australia International Hotel Management School in Zhejiang Province.

The new training facility will offer William Angliss’ quality education resources to develop highly skilled tourism operators with the ability to practice in tourism, hotel and resort management, marketing and management.

The joint venture will also develop a strategic vision for future collaboration in international tourism education between China and Australia and provide new opportunities for cooperation on commercial tourism ventures.

Mr Herbert said the fact that the deal was a joint venture signalled the high regard with which William Angliss is held and the faith its Chinese partners have in the Victorian provider.

International Education is Victoria’s single largest service based export and is one of the key priority growth sectors that the Victorian Government is working to grow through the $200 million Future Industries Fund.

Vocational education is a key part of that sector and Victoria has been hugely successful in exporting its expertise with Victorian vocational education currently making up 78 per cent of Australia’s vocational education and training delivery in China.

International Education is Victoria’s number one service based export and supports more than 30,000 jobs across the state and generating $5.6 billion dollars for the economy last financial year.

The Victorian Budget 2016/17 included $32 million to drive continued growth in the international education sector. It will also be used to help implement the International Education Sector Strategy.

Quotes attributable to the Minister for International Education Steve Herbert

“The Andrews Labor Government is working hard to grow our international education sector because we understand the enormous opportunities there are for our universities and training institutions to work with partners in China and in other fast growing economies across Asia.”
