White Night To Light Up Geelong And Bendigo

02 November 2017

The Andrews Labor Government is bringing White Night to Geelong and Bendigo for the first time in 2018.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren joined White Night Artistic Director David Atkins OAM at the Geelong Botanic Gardens today to announce the event’s further expansion into regional Victoria.

The Labor Government brought White Night to regional Victoria for the first time earlier this year, when more than 40,000 people flocked to Ballarat.

White Night Ballarat generated over $3 million for the Ballarat economy, and next year’s new iterations will provide more good news for local businesses and jobs across our regions.

Geelong and Bendigo were chosen because they’ve proved they can host the big events and already boast an impressive events calendar.

Celebrated producer David Atkins OAM will lead the charge, working with Victoria’s cultural institutions, independent artists and the best creative minds to deliver White Night Geelong and Bendigo, as well as the existing events in Melbourne and Ballarat.

Geelong has a rich history shaped by its Indigenous heritage and White Night will pay tribute to it.

White Night Bendigo will pay homage to the city’s rich history, from the myths and legends of its Indigenous owners to its Gold Rush past, and notable visit by composer Richard Strauss, to its current vibrant arts and cultural community.

White Night Bendigo will take place on Saturday, 1 September 2018, before heading to Geelong on Saturday, 13 October 2018. White Night is also returning to Ballarat for a second time on Saturday, 17 March 2018.
