Warrnambool Aviation Businesses Set For Take Off

29 January 2016

Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford today opened the Warrnambool Regional Aviation Park, which will create at least 20 new jobs and support further expansion in regional businesses.

In Warrnambool today, Ms Pulford said expanding Warrnambool Regional Aviation Park will stimulate investment and employment in the region.

The $4.3 million project has built taxiways, hangar access roads, drainage and essential services, which will expand the airport’s capacity and facilitate investment in up to 21 additional hangar sites at the Airport.

The Andrews Labor Government has been a major supporter of the Warrnambool Regional Aviation Park Project, contributing $3.45 million to the upgrade, with Warrnambool City Council and Moyne Shire Council providing a further $850,000.

The Government also provided support to deliver a major upgrade to one of the runways which was previously unsealed and in need of maintenance works to cope with the anticipated increase in aircraft activity.

Warrnambool is a comprehensive service centre for the region, and its population is predicted to grow by almost a third over the next 15 years with around 12,000 new residents.

Tourism is another important industry for the Warrnambool region, attracting more than 700,000 visitors each year to the region.

The upgraded site will service the growing demand for hangar space from existing and new aviation related businesses to expand or establish their operations at the airport.

With limited industrial land in the region, the increased hangar capacity and transport infrastructure opens up new opportunities for investment and jobs in aviation related industries across the area.

The new infrastructure will maintain local jobs and benefit local businesses including contractors that service Otway Basin resource projects and tourism operators across the region.
