Victoria’s Booming ICT Industry Dominates National Awards

27 August 2015

Six Victorian companies, organisations and individuals were among the winners at the National iAwards hosted in Melbourne tonight, with another four receiving Commendations of Merit.

Minister for Small Business, Innovation and Trade Philip Dalidakis opened the event, hosted by Victorian entertainer Dave Hughes, congratulating the winners and recognising all of Australia’s world-class Information and Communications Technology (ICT) companies and individuals.

The national iAwards, now in their 21st year, are presented by the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) and earn the winners opportunity to represent Australia at the Asia Pacific ICT Awards later this year in Sri Lanka.

The Andrews Labor Government has committed to hosting the National iAwards Program until 2018, reinforcing the state’s reputation as the Australian hub for ICT.

Victoria’s reputation for delivering innovative ICT products and services is already showing dividends for the economy, now generating annual exports of $2.5 billion and more than $34 billion in annual revenue.

Through the new ICT Industry Strategy, the Labor Government will take advantage of the widening demand for ICT products and services, access to ICT skills and high speed broadband.

These initiatives will encourage even further growth within our ICT industry, which currently employs 91,300 people in almost 8,200 companies across the state.
