Victorians Getting Back to Work

12 March 2015

Treasurer Tim Pallas and Minister for Employment, Jacinta Allan, welcomed the seasonally adjusted fall in Victorian unemployment for February, from 6.6 per cent to 6.0 per cent.

Under the Andrews Labor Government, Victorians are getting back to work. Our economy is finally moving in the right direction after four years of Liberal failure.

This good news comes on top of recent data from the Westpac-Melbourne Institute. Victoria’s consumer sentiment increased 7.0 per cent, placing us ahead of all other mainland states. Victoria also had the highest number of residential building approvals.

The Labor Government is building the projects our state needs, including the Melbourne Metro Rail Project and the Level Crossing Removal Project, creating around 8,000 jobs.

Labor’s Back To Work Plan will also provide up to $100 million in relief to businesses hiring unemployed youth, the long-term unemployed and retrenched workers to help create at least 100,000 jobs.
