Victorians Being Urged To Donate This Australia Day

16 January 2020

This Australia Day, Victorians are being asked to consider donating to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal to help struggling bushfire affected communities across our state.

Many Victorians will enjoy Australia Day with friends and family. But for far too many, the day will instead be spent facing the threat of fires or focusing on the long process of recovery.

It’s why – whether it’s hosting a morning tea, a backyard cricket match or rustling up gold coin donations at a barbeque – Victorians are being encouraged to give generously where they can.

Established in partnership with the Bendigo Bank Community Enterprise Foundation, funds from the Victorian Bushfire Appeal will go towards practical support as bushfire affected communities begin to rebuild and recover, with every dollar going to those who need it most.

That includes helping to meet the most urgent needs of local families – covering the cost of everything from a grocery shop to replacing school uniforms.

The Appeal will also help address the most immediate priorities of communities, including the rescue and rehabilitation of local wildlife.

Victoria’s devastating bushfires have already destroyed more than 1.4 million hectares and hundreds of buildings, displacing thousands of people and leaving many local families in desperate need of help.

The Government has already contributed $2 million to the Appeal, helping to make sure impacted families and communities have the support they need right away.

A pack of materials, including flyers and social graphics, to support local fundraising efforts will be made available at www.vic.gov.au/bushfireappealExternal Link
