Victorian Heroes Receive Ambulance Service Medals

The Andrews Labor Government has congratulated six Ambulance Victoria members who were today awarded the Ambulance Service Medal in the 2015 Australia Day Honours List.

Professor Stephen Bernard of Glen Iris

In a career with Ambulance Victoria spanning more than 20 years, Professor Stephen Bernard has been pivotal in driving a quality, evidence-based approach to patient care.

Ralph Casey of Endeavour Hills

During 25 years of service, Ralph Casey has improved clinical care through the provision of technical and communications support to Ambulance Victoria.

Justin Dunlop of Nunawading

Paramedic Justin Dunlop has been a key member of the Emergency Management Unit since its inception in 2004. His role in the 2009 and 2014 bushfires and heatwaves has been commended.

Andrew McDonnell of Riddells Creek

Andrew McDonnell commenced his career in paramedicine in 1989 and worked tirelessly to establish the Paramedic Sciences Department at Victoria University, with the first intake of students into the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Paramedic) in 1999.

Ian Rogers of Maryborough

As a volunteer and devoted auxiliary member for more than 40 years, Ian Rogers has contributed significantly to Ambulance Victoria’s operations, and helped establish two ambulance stations in Maryborough.

Michael Stephenson of Glen Iris

One of the state’s most experienced Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance paramedics, Michael Stephenson commenced his career with Ambulance Victoria in 1996 and helped formalise new clinical guidelines and education for the management of cardiac arrest.

The Ambulance Service Medal honours those who have gone beyond the call of duty and made a real difference in the lives of people facing life-threatening medical emergencies.
