Victoria Leads The Nation With Strongest Jobs Growth

16 June 2016

Victoria’s jobs market continues to strengthen with continued growth in full-time jobs, as reported by the Australian Bureau of Statistics today.

The Andrews Labor Government has welcomed the release of the Australian Bureau of Statistics Labour Force figures with full-time employment in Victoria rising strongly by 28,500 people in May.

Victoria has the strongest jobs growth in the nation in both absolute and percentage terms, with full-time employment 84,500 people higher than a year ago.

By way of comparison, during their last term in Government, the Liberal Party created less than 15,000 full time jobs in four years.

The level of Victorian employment is now 120,000 people higher than in November 2014, with full-time employment up by 85,200 people during the same period.

Victoria’s youth unemployment rate (12 month average) continues to fall, and is now 2.0 percentage points lower than 12 months ago.

Victoria’s labour market is expected to remain strong and healthy.

Victoria’s economy will continue to grow with economic indicators of employment growth, such as job advertisements and job vacancies, show that solid jobs growth is likely to continue in Victoria in the near term.
