Victoria will this week host more than 250 innovators from across the globe to discuss new ideas to engage future generations in the world’s museums at the global MuseumNext conference in Melbourne.
Minister for Small Business, Innovation and Trade Philip Dalidakis today welcomed the large international delegation, commending its organisers for driving tech advancements and disruption across the museum sector.
The conference, which runs from 15-17 February, is a coup for the state as Melbourne becomes the first city to host the global event in the southern hemisphere.
Hosted by ACMI at Federation Square, the conference will showcase iconic Melbourne locations including the Arts Centre Melbourne, Melbourne Museum, The Grainger, State Library Victoria and Heide Museum of Modern Art.
MuseumNext joins a long list of global conferences and events that are held across the state each year, with tourism and major events injecting $21 billion into the Victorian economy, supporting 210,000 local jobs.
Melbourne’s museums are recognised globally for their innovation excellence with ACMI’s Game Masters and DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition series in high demand for international tours and Melbourne Museum’s Jurassic World: The Exhibition having huge success showcasing world-leading animatronics.
Coinciding with the event, and just in time for this week’s White Night Melbourne festivities, VicFreeWiFi access points have now been turned on around the Melbourne Museum precinct as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s $11 million Victorian Wi-Fi Pilot providing a free WiFi service to visitors across Melbourne’s CBD.
