Upgrading The Ballarat Greyhound Racing Club

20 October 2018

The Andrews Labor Government is upgrading the Ballarat Greyhound Racing Club with 10 new air conditioning units to provide heating and cooling throughout the club.

Minister for Racing Martin Pakula visited the club today to announce $82,000 towards the upgrades and the Ballarat Cup and heats, as part of a joint funding package worth almost $200,000.

The installation of 10 new air conditioning units will help attract even more hospitality and social events, and will be in place by the end of the year.

The Ballarat Cup is the club’s feature race of the year and this year marks 40 years since greyhound racing started at Morshead Park.

To mark the occasion, a formal celebration for club members and industry participants will take place at the Ballarat Cup heats night on Saturday 1 December.

The following Saturday 8 December will see a public celebration at the Ballarat Cup, featuring carnival rides and face painting for kids, and live music from Julianne Bremner. Media personality Simone Fisher will MC both race nights.

Greyhound Racing Victoria is contributing almost $91,000 to the upgrades and race nights, while the club is providing almost $27,000 to the race nights.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has provided more than $258,000 to support five infrastructure projects and nine greyhound racing events at Ballarat.

The racing industry in the Central Highlands generates more than $96 million for the Victorian economy each year and helps sustain more than 950 full-time equivalent jobs in the region.
