UPDATE: Last night the Legislative Council voted to deliver Adoption Equality

13 November 2015

UPDATE: Last night the Legislative Council voted to deliver Adoption Equality.

Unfortunately, in passing the Adoption by Same-Sex Couples Amendment Bill, the Coalition has still allowed faith-based adoption organisations to discriminate in the delivery of government adoption services.

It's really disappointing that after taking orders from Matthew Guy not one Liberal or National MP voted to remove religious exemptions to end all discrimination.

For all those LGBTI families waiting patiently for the outcome of this Bill, don't lose hope. Adoption equality is one step closer. Under our Labor Government, equality is not negotiable.

The bill will now go back to the Legislative Assembly, where it will be considered with the amendment attached. We will consult with stakeholders to consider how the Government will respond to the amendment. What are your thoughts?
