Training The Next Wave Of International Student Leaders

23 June 2017

A new Andrews Labor Government program will help give international students the social, practical and professional skills and experience they need to lead in global business.

LIVE Projects is one of the major components to come out of the Lead, Intern, Volunteer, Experience (LIVE) initiative launched in March and will help international students gain invaluable work-based experience.

The first cohort of LIVE Projects will involve more than 120 students from Victorian universities and TAFEs working together in teams of five as business consultants to deliver a project for a real-world client.

Throughout the program, students will gain corporate knowledge, social awareness and a better understanding of how a business environment operates.

Three cohorts totalling more than 400 students will participate in the initiative in June and November 2017, and February 2018.

LIVE Projects is the result of a partnership between Study Melbourne, educational technology company Intersective and a collection of Victorian Government and non-government agencies and private companies.

Students from William Angliss Institute, University of Melbourne, RMIT, the Australian Catholic University and other Victorian education institutions will take part in program.

Ensuring international students reach their full academic potential, exposing them to genuine business environments and boosting employment prospects are key parts of Victoria’s world-renowned international student experience.

International education is Victoria’s most valuable service-based export. It is worth $7.1 billion to the state’s economy and supports more than 30,000 Victorian jobs.

Quotes attributable to the Minister for Small Business, Innovation and Trade Philip Dalidakis

”When international students come to study in Victoria we want to ensure they leave our state armed with the tools and experience to take on the world.”

“The contribution that international students make to Victoria extends beyond our economy – they strengthen our communities, promote innovative thinking and become ambassadors for Victoria.”

“The LIVE Projects will only strengthen Victoria’s already booming international student sector, which will bolster our economy and create more jobs for Victorians.”
