Track Project Boost For Wodonga Racing

16 February 2020

Work will start today on major irrigaton improvements at Wodonga racecourse, enabled by significant support from the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Racing Martin Pakula announced that the Government was providing $300,000 from the Victorian Racing Industry Fund to support the works, with the Wodonga and District Racing Club and Racing Victoria pitching in a collective $300,000.

With eight meetings this season headlined by the popular Caulfield Cup Day, Wodonga Cup and Colts and Fillies Day, Wodonga continues to go from strength to strength.

The project announced today will see a new irrigation system installed around the course proper and sand track with above-ground sprinklers, a control system and new pump shed.

Importantly, the new system will save water and ensure the integrity of the track come rain, hail or shine.

Since 1 December 2014, the Labor Government has approved more than $760,000 to support nine infrastructure projects and six meetings at Wodonga racecourse.

The thoroughbred racing industry in regional Victoria generates more than $715 million for the economy and helps sustain over 6,100 full time equivalent jobs.
