Tails Wagging With Seymour Greyhound Funding Boost

18 January 2019

The Andrews Labor Government is getting on with delivering for much loved Greyhounds with funding announced today for the Greyhound Adoption Centre in Seymour.

Minister for Agriculture Jaclyn Symes was in Seymour to announce the Labor Government’s $50,000 grant for the Greyhound Adoption Centre which will see the centre completely refurbished.

The funds will contribute towards a centre refurbishment, which will help the organisation continue to deliver its important work as it grows to meet the increasing demand for greyhounds as pets.

Today kick-started the first day of a three-day Greyhound Adoption Bonanza where about 115 greyhounds are expected to find their forever home.

The Greyhound Adoption Program has been operating for more than 22 years, rehabilitating and rehoming about 9000 greyhounds; making it one of the world’s leading re-homing agencies for retired greyhounds.

Non-racing greyhounds do not need to be muzzled in public, thanks to changes that came into effect from 1 January this year initiated by the Labor Government.

Non-racing greyhounds however are still required to be leashed in public.

The Government is getting on with providing animal welfare grants to not-for-profit organisations and groups that improve the welfare of Victoria’s companion animals.
