TAFE Revamp Delivers Major Skills Boost In Frankston

08 October 2019

Thousands of Victorians will get the skills they need for the job they want at Chisholm Institute’s Frankston campus – revamped and rebuilt thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Training and Skills and Higher Education Gayle Tierney visited the state-of-the-art campus today to officially open Stage 1 of the Campus Redevelopment Project.

The Labor Government contributed $46.9 million to the $83.4 million project and has announced a further investment of $67.6 million to complete Stage 2.

The Stage 1 redevelopment includes:

  • New state-of-the-art health, community care, early childhood education and hair, beauty and wellness facilities
  • Innovative new student spaces and classrooms
  • Redeveloped trades facilities, including a purpose-built, flexible, integrated design centre

The new buildings give students access to the best facilities, create more opportunities for people living in the region and deliver high-quality training for the most in-demand jobs that are delivering vital services to Victorians.

New data released today reveals 36,000 students have started Free TAFE courses in the nine months to the end of September – a 90 per cent increase in commencements in these courses compared to the same period in 2018.

Chisholm Institute has played a major part in this growth, with more than 6,000 students starting Free TAFE courses – up 187 per cent compared with the same time last year, with top courses including accounting and bookkeeping, education support and nursing.

Stage 2 of the Chisholm Frankston campus project will replace existing buildings C and E with a modern, cutting edge, multi-level learning facility.
