Supporting School Kids In Mildura To Be Their Best

02 December 2015

Minister for Education James Merlino today visited Mildura to meet with students and staff and discuss the Andrews Labor Government’s commitment to regional schools.

The Labor Government’s Education State reforms will provide $5.5 million in additional funding to Mildura schools, including a significant boost in equity funding and today’s announcement of $450,000 for Robinvale P-12 College.

During his trip to North-West Victoria, Mr Merlino met with members of the Northern Mallee School Council Presidents and Principals Group for an open forum.

Mr Merlino also visited Red Cliffs Secondary College’s award-winning FLO Connect Campus, where dedicated teachers and staff support students to be their best.

The Labor Government is providing the biggest-ever increase in needs-based funding for government schools, and regional students will receive on average twice as much as metropolitan students.

The Northern Mallee School Council Presidents’ Group was established in September 2014 to better address the needs of Northern Mallee schools.

FLO Connect is an award-winning and innovative education re-engagement program offering young people who have left school the opportunity to reconnect in education, training and employment.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Education, James Merlino:

“It’s been great to visit Mildura to see the dedicated teachers, staff and principals who are going above and beyond for their students.”

“We know that regional schools need more support. That’s why regional students will receive, on average, twice as much as metropolitan students under our needs-based funding boost.”

“The Andrews Labor Government is providing an additional $5.5 million to schools across Mildura in 2016, meaning almost $10 million in equity support will be provided to Mildura schools next year alone.”
