Supporting The Salvos’ 2022 Red Shield Appeal

20 May 2022

The Andrew’s Labor Government is building on Victoria’s nation leading work to end family violence with a boost to the Salvation Army’s 2022 Red Shield Appeal.

Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers Anthony Carbines today announced a $150,000 contribution to help the Salvation Army provide accommodation, legal advice, financial relief, trauma counselling and employment support to women experiencing family violence.

This year donations to the Red Shield Appeal will provide support for those experiencing family violence. In 2021 alone, the Salvation Army assisted more than 5,800 women and children across Australia who were experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, family and domestic violence.

Victoria is leading the nation with its work to end family violence, with more than $3.7 billion invested since the Royal Commission – more than every other state and territory combined, and more than the Commonwealth.

The Labor Government continues to support women experiencing family violence with a $241 million investment in this year’s budget.

This includes a $69 million boost for the expansion of critical refuge and crisis accommodation for victim survivors who cannot safely remain at home.

The Orange Door network - a key recommendation of the landmark Royal Commission into Family Violence - has assisted more than 216,000 people across Victoria, including more than 87,000 children, since it was established in 2018.
