Residents in Mildura and the wider Mallee region are being urged to take advantage of emergency relief assistance available to individuals and families affected by Friday’s freak storm.
Minister for Emergency Services James Merlino today visited Mildura and Merbein to thank emergency service staff and volunteers for their efforts in keeping the community safe, and to offer support to residents affected by the extreme weather.
The communities of Mildura, Merbein, Irymple and Red Cliffs were hardest hit, with power outages and damage to homes, businesses, farms and schools.
Emergency Relief Assistance had already been provided to assist a number of residents.
The relief assistance provides a one off payment of up to $1300 per household to help meet immediate needs, including emergency food, shelter, clothing and personal items.
Disaster assistance was activated for Mildura City Council through the jointly-funded Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements after the October floods.
This financial assistance to the council to restore essential public assets, such as roads and storm water infrastructure, will also apply to damage caused by Friday’s extreme weather.
